Have you
ever heard of a retractor? No not the kind surgeons use, but
rather the kind that anglers use. That's right, the kind that
anglers use, and if they don't, they probably should. A retractor
is a small mechanical device that holds lightweight fishing gear
that gets used a lot. In other words, a retractor allows you
to have any lightweight gear that gets used a lot to be hanging
off of your fishing vest, shirt, or pocket for easy access. Retractors
are a huge time saver.
If you spend any time fishing
you know that things like your hemostats and nail clippers are
always a pain in the butt to find when you need them. This little
dilemma is eliminated with the help of a couple of retractors.
We all know that we shouldn't bite our fishing line with our
teeth, but who has time to find their nail clippers (to snip
their line) when all you want to do is wet a line? Very few of
us. But, with the help of a retractor, ya pair of nail clippers
is always right there, literally "at your fingertips",
waiting to be used.
What about hemostats for hook
removal? Sure, you keep them in your vest, but if you're anything
like me, every time they are needed finding them requires digging
through what seems like every pocket in your fishing vest. With
the help of a retractor your hemostats can always be hanging
right where you know they are.
Not only are lightweight equipment
such as hemostats or nail clippers hanging within reach of your
fingertips, with a retractor, you simply grab the equipment,
use it, then release it and zip, the retractor pulls it right
back into place. In other words, if you need to snip your line
after tying on a new lure, you simply grab your nail clippers,
pull them out, use them and release them. Then, zip, the retractor
pulls them right back in. It's beautiful. If you've never had
the pleasure of using a retractor while fishing, do your self
a favor and give it a try. You'll wonder how you ever went fishing
without them!
